The first doctor appointment

I Everyone,
First before I get started, some of you automatically get each blog update sent to your email inbox. If this is annoying and you want to be taken off the list, there are no hard feelings. I realize I am going to be blogging about things that some of you are eager to know every detail about and others will be flat out bored. SO you if you want to be taken off the list, just let me know and I can take you off the auto list. Dont worry, I wont judge you or your feelings for our son. I totally understand it may not be the highlight of your day to know about how many hours of sleep or what Minsoo ate. :)

NOW for more ALL ABOUT MINSOO...
He is holding his favorite toy, a book that his social worker from Korea gave him that plays nursery rhymes in Korean.

Still, no sleep last night. Minsoo finally went to bed at 4:30am and woke up at 7:30am. I dont know how Paul is functioning considering he has to work. I fell asleep with minsoo at 9am for his morning nap and we did not wake up until 1pm. Oops - there goes the goal to stay on schedule. I was just so tired as I am sure he was too.

Paul woke us up because we had his first dr appt today at 2pm. We had no idea what we were in for. Misoo was a very good little boy and sat quiet and giggle and smiley for most of the consult. The dr said he is in the 90% for height (pretty tall!), but only 10% for weight. His head is small too, but she thinks it could be because the back of his head is flat and it may have always been small.

She said many times she can not believe how well he is attaching to us and his communication skills are. There are many things she suggested we start to teach him that he can already do and she said she just could not believe it. For example, he points, walks, (walk/runs) can climb onto chairs, knows how to get down from chairs properly (vs head first), use a sippy cup, feeds himself, expresses himself in his own language and the list goes on. That made us feel really good.

The last part of the visit was the part we were not ready for, he had to get the chicken pox vaccine and some other one I forgot the name of. They also had to take many many viles of blood from him to run all sorts of tests. Our pediatrician is very thorough. She is checking to make sure the vaccines he got in Korea activated correctly. The viles are also to test for various diseases and they are working with the U of MN international adoption clinic to verify he is in good health. She said she was amazed at his health and how good it is. He already as13 teeth too and she was impressed that he is eating solid food. yeah minsoo!

It took 2 nurses, Paul and me to hold him down to take the blood. They had to take so much the little left arm could not provide it all and they had to move to the second. poor minsoo. he was screaming so loud. the nurse kept saying they could not believe how strong he is. We already knew that though as we had seen it during our short visits in korea and the foster mom had said he is stronger than is age. He was able to push me in the kitchen chair too, so I knew he was strong. The other thing that Minsoo can do which I guess is unsual for his age is that he can climb all of the stairs in our house, but the unusual part is he can go down them all too. he is fearless. Paul and I have a theory that it is from all of the Piggy back rides that he learned a great center of gravity and balance.

We have to go back to the clinical again in a few days to give them urine and stool samples and to check his skin test for TB and then again with the dr in 2 weeks. We also need to get an eye test ran by an eye dr. The dr suggested we get him on milk and ween him off formula and also to try cosleeping if we need to since we all need sleep so badly. Paul decided to try the crib again tonight. wish him luck! Minsoo was very tired and he crawled up the stairs and into his room which is a good sign. so maybe he will sleep for at least a few hours. If all else fails we may need to create a pipe bed like this family did for their little girl Cricket from China: http://onetwogrow.blogspot.com/2010/08/pipe-dreams.html

Its 8:31 and I am off to bed and hopefully to sleep!

Hopefully we can take name to decide on a name tomorrow. not having one is getting embarrassing.

Hi! Glad that his doctor appt. went well! No one ever prepares you for the blood draw and the shots!! I remember that well! It doesn't seem to get better as they get older either(they get stronger so its even harder)...I still have to hold my two down when they draw blood. Just the sight of the needle makes them want to bolt. LOL!! Thats good you took a nap...you have to remember to sleep when they sleep...the cleaning, etc. will always be there...hang in there, you are doing great!
